Bus From Yangon To Inle Lake: Practical Information
Yangon and Inle Lake are two of 4 tourist highlights in Myanmar (besides Mandalay and Bagan). You can travel between two destinations by plane, train, bus and even taxi, in which night buses are chosen by a great number of visitors as they are more comfortable than trains and much cheaper than planes. Here we provide you with all of the useful information about the bus from Yangon to Inle Lake.
Yangon to Inle Lake bus general information
Almost all of buses traveling between Yangon and Inle Lake are night buses, which is a good way for you to save a hotel night. Every bus from Yangon to Inle Lake is equipped with air-conditioners, sockets, blanket and TV, and passengers are served snacks and drinks. VIP buses also provide passengers with toothbrush and toothpaste, face wipes and sick bags. In general, the buses will stop after 3 hours traveling for passengers’ dining and toileting. It’ll take you around 9-10 hours for the 570-kilometer journey between Yangon and Inle Lake by bus. Note that the night buses will arrive at Nyaungshwe Township in the early morning. So make sure to book your hotels in Nyaungshwe Township in advance and prepare for the transfer from bus station to your hotel during your Myanmar travel.
You can but bus tickets at bus stations (Yangon and Inle Lake terminals) and travel agents or book online on several bus ticket websites of Myanmar (a free of $5 will be surcharged for online services.)
Yangon terminal: Aung Mingalar Bus Station
Aung Mingalar bus station is the main bus station in Yangon and located at Thudhamma Road, North Okkalarpa Township, Yangon, Myanmar. It is about 13 miles (about 50 minutes by car in normal traffic) from downtown and about 5 miles (about 30 mins by car) from the airport.
Inle Lake Terminal: Nyaungshwe Township, the township by the Inle Lake. Particular dropping points depend on each bus companies.

For your Burma tours, it’s better for you to choose a VIP bus from Yangon to Inle Lake to have a more comfortable atmosphere and better service. Boss and Lumbini are probably best service providers for the route between Yangon and Inle Lake (their ticket price, of course, is a little bit higher). JJ Express offers good services but their buses are a little old.
