A train journey from Yangon to Bagan is usually described to be “incredibly slow” and “terrible”. You will have to cope with noise and shakings due to the poor conditions of the Myanmar railway. It’s better for you to prepare warm clothes as the temperature may be much reduced at night. Food and drink are served through the journey but not included in the ticket price. Trains normally leave Yangon station at 4.00pm, and arrive in Bagan around 10.00am (the next day).

Aung Mingalar bus station is the main bus station in Yangon and located at Thudhamma Road, North Okkalarpa Township, Yangon, Myanmar. It is about 13 miles (about 50 minutes by car in normal traffic) from downtown and about 5 miles (about 30 mins by car) from the airport.
Bagan terminal: Bagan Terminal: Bagan Shwe Pyi Bus Station
Bagan Shwe Pyi is a new Bus station in Bagan and it is now one and only bus station in Bagan since the old one is not used now. It is located at Nyung U- Kyauk Pan Taung Highway road and you can ask hotel reception or local taxi driver how to get there.

There are both day and night buses from Yangon to Bagan. Night buses are preferred by the travelers. In general, the bus journey is relatively pleasant thanks to quite good road condition and quality of the bus itself (all buses are air-conditioned). However, it’s a little noisy, especially the normal bus, as the driver turns on movies and Burmese traditional music loud until midnight.
JJ Express is considered the best bus service provider for the route. Their VIP bus has WC, free wifi; every seat has a blanket, pillow, and sockets. Passengers are also provided with a drink, a snack, and toothbrush with toothpaste.
Note that the night bus normally leaves the downtown Yangon at 7.00pm and arrives in Bagan around 5.00am (the next day). So make sure to book your hotels in Bagan in advance and prepare for the transfer from bus station to your hotel.

Get from Yangon to Bagan by air

Yangon terminal: Yangon International Airport
Yangon International Airport (Mingladon) is approximately 30min north of city center. Allow 2 hours during the rush hours. It will cost about $7-10 to travel from the airport to the city center.
Bagan terminal: Nyaung U Airport
Nyaung U Airport is located in Nyaung-U (or Nyaung Oo), a town in the Mandalay Region, Burma (Myanmar), 7 kilometers from New Bagan. It will take about 15–20 minutes by car and cost 7,000 – 10,000 kyat to travel from the airport to New Bagan.

Taking a domestic fight is the easiest and quickest way to travel from Yangon to Bagan. In high season (November to February), the ticket price is normally $10 than that in low season.
