How To Get From Yangon To Ngapali Beach

Ngapali is in Rakhine State, Western Myanmar. It’s the most famous beach and a population tourist destination in Myanmar. Standing out by fine white sand, clear crystal water, unspoiled natural environment and luxury resorts, Ngapali is an ideal place for relaxation. Many international tourists travel to Ngapali from Yangon, the former capital and the largest city of Myanmar. Here we give instructions on how to get from Yangon to Ngapali Beach.

By air

Domestic flights are the quickest and easiest way to travel from Yangon to Ngapali Beach. The Thandwe Airport, which is 6 kilometers far from Ngapali Beach, is the closest one to the beach. Every day, there are a lot of flights served by 8 local airlines from Yangon International Airport to Thandwe Airport, taking 55 minutes to 2¼ hours and costing around $111. The local airlines consist of:
Air Bagan (http://www.airbagan.com/)
Air KBZ (http://airkbz.com/)
Air Mandalay (http://www.airmandalay.com/)
Asian Wing (http://asianwingsair.com/)
Golden Myanmar (http://www.gmairlines.com/)
Mann Yadanarpon Airlines (http://www.airmyp.com/)
Yangon Airways (http://www.yangonair.com/)
Myanmar National Airways (https://www.flymna.com/)
Note that there are fewer flights in the rainy season (May to October) due to rough weather, but Myanmar National Airlines keeps flying daily at 6:30 and 11:00. Most resorts in Ngapali Beach have Airport Shuttle Service (free or surcharged). Please contact them for more information.

By bus

Before deciding to choose a bus trip from Yangon to Thandwe town, always remember that the journey would be very long and mostly unpleasant due to the bad condition of roads in Myanmar. Daily air-con buses offered by Ye Aung Lan and Aung Thitsar leave Yangon at 7:00 and 15:00, and reach Thandwe after 14-16 hours. Tickets cost about 12,000-16,000 kyat per person.
The journey goes through mountain ranges with lots of stops at immigration points, which is simply a formality. Make sure to take warm clothing with you as it tends to get chilly overnight. When you arrive in Thandwe, normally early in the morning, you will need to take a taxi or a “motorcycle taxi” to reach Ngapali Beach.

By taxi

A bus trip may be less time-consuming and more convenient, especially if shared between 3 or 4 people. It takes 10-12 hours and costs $60-80 for the journey from Yangon to Ngapali Beach.
No matter which transportation means you choose to get from Yangon to Ngapali, it’s better for you to check the information carefully with service providers. If you travel by bus or taxi, prepare warm and medicines, especially in case you have to suffer from motion sickness.
